Suzanne Muller

Suzanne Muller is a licensed clinical social worker with 25 years of experience providing care in the field of mental health. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Johns Hopkins University in 1991, she began her career working on Capitol Hill as a legislative assistant in health care. It was during this work she realized that her real interest in the health care field could be better met by serving people directly. She received her MSW from the University of Pennsylvania in 1995 after completing two years of internships working with children and adolescents in both school and hospital settings. She spent three years at the Devereux Foundation working with adolescents and their families before beginning to specialize in the fields of eating disorders and postpartum mood disorders. Suzanne has worked at the Renfrew Center for eating disorders on and off for ten years, while taking some time off to raise three daughter who are now 19, 17 and 13. She worked at The Postpartum Stress Center in 2004-2005 and has recently returned to pursue this work because of the connection she felt with this clientele, as well as her desire to promote advocacy and awareness for this cause. Suzanne tailors her approach to the need of each individual but generally includes principles of cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy and mindfulness.

Although having a baby can be one of life’s greatest gifts, it can be one of life’s most challenging transitions as well. Women are often not prepared for the magnitude of this transition and it can engulf them while they are at their most vulnerable; sleep deprived and physically compromised. It is my hope to give these women a safe and nurturing space to begin to heal, to learn to redefine themselves under these new circumstances and to navigate the path back to themselves.
