Elizabeth Chakravarty
Psychotherapist
Elizabeth is a Licensed Social Worker in Pennsylvania. She earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Widener University and received her undergraduate degree from Villanova University. She has worked specifically with mothers in their perinatal period and beyond. Elizabeth also volunteers with Postpartum Support International in supporting mothers through their challenges, self-doubt, and anxieties that often come along during this transitional time in a woman’s life.
Elizabeth practices a narrative approach while providing a safe and non-judgmental place for a mother to unload her story both of her past and present. When giving birth to a child, a mother is also giving birth to her own childhood, which simply means her past traumas may resurface during a time when she is particularly vulnerable. Effects of old family systems and unresolved childhood wounds can come up after having a baby, which can be very confusing and emotionally complicated.
“Being a mother myself, I understand that healing begins when we feel heard without judgement. A mother’s guilt due to not feeling well can be excruciatingly painful. I am here to support all mothers, including those who have lost a child, birthed a disabled child, or grew up with a disabled or unwell sibling. All of these circumstances can leave a mother with feelings of grief and loss that are incredibly difficult to navigate alone. Having a safe place to go to process the emotional pain and receive validation and hope is so important to a mother’s road to recovery and feeling better. It is okay to not feel okay. You are not alone in feeling this way. Reaching out for help is such an unbelievable strength and a gift you can give yourself.”
