This interactive workshop explores the neuroscience of motherhood, focusing on how memory, mental load, and brain changes during pregnancy and postpartum impact maternal mental health. Participants will learn about the neurological and hormonal shifts that influence attention, emotional regulation, and vulnerability to perinatal mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. Drawing on both cutting-edge research and compassionate clinical insight, the session will also feature a conversation with renowned perinatal mental health expert Karen Kleiman, with a focus on the concept of "holding"—the emotional and psychological support essential to maternal care. The workshop reviews evidence-based treatments that support brain health and recovery, debunks common myths about "mom brain," and emphasizes the role of support systems and policy in maternal wellbeing. Designed for professionals and caregivers, the workshop blends science, empathy, and practical tools to better understand and support mothers during the perinatal period.
