Workshop: Perinatal OCD LEVEL II - Jan

The treatment of OCD in the perinatal population has nuances that can often be challenging and stressful for clinicians. What happens if a client’s feared outcome comes true? How do we distinguish between OCD and psychosis and feel comfortable making that distinction? What can we do to account for the impact of social media and technology on OCD symptoms? How do we navigate challenges with family systems of clients experiencing OCD symptoms and address enablement and resentment? How do we manage situations in which clients have valid concern for their children’s well-being? NOW TWO HOURS! Presenter: Noah Suzuki, LPC, Perinatal Mental Health Counselor, The Postpartum Stress Center, will introduce the symptom profile obsessive-compulsive distress associated with the perinatal period and explore case examples and treatment approaches that can be applied to individual cases. Description: This training aims to build upon the fundamentals of OCD treatment and address these questions and many more. Participants will be invited to share complex cases, ask questions related to treatment, and develop skills for planning and executing evidence-based treatments. We aim for this to be a collaborative space for clinicians to gain comfort in the subtleties and complexities inherent in working with this population. This pertains to NBCC content areas: Counseling Theory/Practice and the Counseling Relationship and Assessment. Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will be introduced to special issues related to Perinatal OCD and what we typically observe with this issues 2. Participants will discuss empirically-supported treatments for these issues that can be applied to the perinatal population and have the opportunity to craft treatment plans related to this 3. Participants will be invited to discuss relevant cases and receive in-depth consultation. 4. Participants will be able to discuss the challenges inherent in this work, the concerns they have about it and the opportunity to process this discomfort. 2.0 CE hrs The Postpartum Stress Center, LLC has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7461.
