Symptoms of perinatal distress often share many of the same characteristics as obsessive-compulsive disorder. So how do we distinguish one from the other when we are faced with these types of intrusive thoughts? How do we treat these symptoms in a way that considers the nuances specific to the perinatal period? As clinicians, perspective and understanding are paramount to providing calm, directed care for parents having these painful experiences. This training aims to provide an introduction to the diagnosis, treatment, and conceptualization of obsessive-compulsive symptoms often found in the perinatal population. Learning Objectives 1. Participants will be introduced to the diagnostic profile of obsessions, compulsions, and perinatal distress 2. Participants will learn how to distinguish between traditional perinatal anxiety and obsessive-compulsive anxiety 3. Participants will discuss the nuances and common themes of obsessive-compulsive symptoms during the perinatal period 4. Participants will discuss empirically-support treatments for obsessive-compulsive symptoms that can be used in a perinatal population 5. Participants will be invited to discuss relevant cases and receive consultation
