Jointly taught by The Postpartum Stress Center's Hilary Waller and Mike DeAngelo: HOLDING PERINATAL COUPLES: What you need to know about perinatal partners and how to help them protect their relationships. This training will include the review of case examples to highlight: (i) symptoms of postpartum anxiety and depression, (ii) the experience of caregivers and caregiver burnout, and (iii) the importance of perceived partner support. Learning objectives of this training are: (i) Describe the themes therapists should consider in therapeutic planning for the support person. (ii) Apply Holding interventions to facilitate change toward improving the quality of communication within postpartum couples. (iii) List 5 differences between postpartum anxiety and depression in birthing parents versus non-birthing parents. (iv) Discuss why increased awareness of intersectionality when working with perinatal couples is important for identification and treatment of depression and anxiety in new parents.
