Suicide is a leading cause of death during the perinatal period. Our instructor discusses statistics, risk factors, warning signs, screening tools, risk assessment, safety plans and other tools and resources to address suicide before and after childbirth. Despite many healthcare professionals discomfort with talking about suicide, understanding the importance of directly addressing this issue is essential in suicide prevention. The course includes personal accounts and case studies of suicidal ideation and suicide.
